THIS FALL, EXPLORE MACKINAC ISLAND LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
“The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see. The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.”
–Gilbert K. Chesterton.
Truer words were never spoken as another beautiful Mackinac summer slowly slips away and on September 23, the Fall Equinox began. On Mackinac Island, even sights that are familiar are brand new everyday. While I love the summer, Fall is one of my favorite times of year as the sun rises later and the evening shows up two minutes earlier each day. It’s spectacular to watch the sunrise on Mackinac as it pierces the crisp air and sends waves of golden sunshine to sparkle on the water and dance on the leaves as they transition in color. And as the sun kisses the water and slowly slips away before saying “good night moon”, it’s a sight to behold as you reflect on the day past.
On Mackinac, there’s something that makes this time of year even more magical and it’s a time of change.A time of change as many people have left the Island to return to their homes. A time of change as many of our horses have left after a hard-working summer for some rest and relaxation. A time of change as leaves turn colors and everyday is like a brand new day as the trees are a symphony of red, orange, yellow and purple and then, one by one, they begin to fall covering our roads, trails and lawns with a magnificent rainbow of fall colors. F. Scott Fitzgerald sums it up beautifully, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall.”
Have you ever really explored Mackinac Island? Biking the 8.2 miles around our beautiful Island makes you forget where you are as you leave the world behind. But the real adventure begins when you trek into the depths of Mackinac in the Fall, explore the inner beauty and hear nothing other than the crunching of leaves as you pedal through the maze of roads and trails. A place where exploring takes on new meaning and Mackinac Island is calling your name.
For starters, explore the beauty of the West Bluffs and the North Bicycle Trail. Then head over to the majesty Sugar Loaf and take in the view. Now your adventure begins. The weather has a chill in the air but the people on Mackinac welcoming you back will make you feel warm inside. Come back and visit us at the Lilac Tree Suites and take advantage of our Special Fall Rates and while you’re here, treat yourself to a great Spa treatment at our Lilac Tree Spa. You’ll discover why we call it the Stairway to Heaven.
