Do you really have to say good-bye to Mackinac Island with so much summer yet untapped? The weather has been amazingly perfect with sunny, blue skies and record heat in the mid to high 80’s and that means now is the time for you to come back and visit your favorite Island. Whether you’re a “fudgie” or not, Mackinac Island is known for it’s world-famous, mouth watering, creamy, pick your magical flavor fudge. The Mackinac Island Fudge Festival is going on from August 19th – 21st and you can celebrate delicious Mackinac fudge in lots of ways.
It kicks off on Friday, August 19th, from 3-5 pm with a Mackinac Fudge Stout brewed specially for the festival and a fudge pairing at our Pink Pony. Enjoy this amazing brew and also try any of the Pink Pony’s 24 draft beers on tap. The weekend will be filled with lots of fudge tasting at Mackinac’s Fudge shops. One of my favorite movies growing up was “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” with the big prize being a Golden Ticket! On Saturday, August 20th, the Mackinac Island Fudge Festival is celebrating with a special “Daddy, I Want the Golden Ticket Give-Away!” When you buy fudge at select shops there will be a golden ticket hidden in 4 special boxes of fudge. The prize package includes overnight accommodations, ferry tickets and a Mackinac Island Carriage tour for a family of four! These are Golden Tickets everyone can enjoy!
The Fudge Festival wraps up on Sunday, August 21st with “Fun-Day, Fudge – Day on a Sunday!” Say that 3 times fast! Whew! It starts at 12:30 at Windmere Point and the 1st 100 children to arrive receive a FREE ½ lb box of fudge! That’s followed by plenty of games and chances to win great prizes. Here’s just two of the great fun activities that you and your family will want to enjoy.
- The Great Turtle Slow Race where the goal is finishing LAST on a bike! (bikes provided)
- The Pioneer Sugar Sack Relay Race where teams will run while carrying sugar! Sweet!
Plus, celebrate Mackinac Island’s unique fudge making process with fudge-making demonstrations at select fudge shops where you can witness the magic of making fudge, Mackinac style, plus they’ll be free samples so everyone’s a winner!
And now, here’s another chance to win. Right now, people are already thinking that summer is over, but we have plenty of great summer days and nights ahead. I love the month of August on Mackinac and now’s a great time to take advantage of the great suites we have available Sunday- Thursday for the last 2 weeks in August. Also, we have a special Breakfast Add-On for new or existing reservations so this is for you. For only $13 per person, you can choose any item off of the breakfast menu at the Pink Pony, located at our sister hotel, The Chippewa- a short walk down on Main Street. It’s my favorite place to eat on the Island and I’ll tell you from personal experience, everything on the menu is fantastic and I’ve tried many of them. You can choose from any of the great selections of mouth-watering Eggs, Omelets, Waffles, French Toast, and more, carefully prepared just for you.
Plus, it gets better because kids eat FREE! Any child staying at the Lilac Tree Suites & Spa under 10, who’s accompanied by an adult, gets a FREE breakfast from our kids menu because your kids are special to us, just as they are to you! When you make your reservations for your room with us, call us at (906) 847-6575 and ask for a “Pre-Paid Breakfast” and we’ll take care of the rest for you. Another winner! We still have great suites available for the last two weeks in August so give us a call now to make your reservations for a sweet suite at the Lilac Tree Suites & Spa! And don’t forget to ask about our new Turtle Room Suites that I wrote about in last month’s blog.
See you at the sweet Mackinac Fudge Festival!
