People always wonder what the off-season and winter is like on Mackinac Island. Did you ever wonder what goes on at the Lilac Tree Suites during the winter when they’re closed for the season? How about your favorite place to have a great meal and drinks, the Pink Pony, that’s down Main Street at their sister hotel, Chippewa Hotel Waterfront?

A lot goes on that people don’t see during the regular season. During this cold season, the crews are working hard to get the Lilac Tree Suites in great shape to prepare for your arrival on opening weekend which will be here at the beginning of May. It’s coming up fast and it will be here before you know it.

I’ve been talking to my good friend Bart, who’s the Front Desk Manager at the Lilac Tree Suites and their sister hotel, the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront, about all of the work that’s being done and it’s amazing to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth, as they say on Mackinac Island!

The front of the Lilac Tree Suites is getting a makeover. The Pink Pony Club next to the hotel entrance has grown in size making the store larger. The front of the Lilac Tree Suites will look totally brand new.

At the Lilac Tree Suites, new materials are brought in daily and then stored in the courtyard. The courtyard has turned into a real wood-working and tile cutting shop where the maintenance crews and contractors are cutting up the materials that are being used to upgrade the rooms.

In the 2nd floor hallway, the white furniture are the new furniture pieces for the hotel’s brand new Lilac Suite. The hallways are lined with plastic because the hallway carpets were all deep cleaned with huge carpet cleaning machines and this way they stay clean.

In regular season, this room hosts happy guests. Now it’s a room that stores the furniture from other rooms that are being redone and also getting new carpeting. So when you return, you’ll be even happier with your new room.

Plus, everything gets labeled so it’s returned to the room they came from, which is important and challenging as each room at the Lilac Tree Suites is unique which makes them all special.

The bathrooms are being re-designed with the bathtubs being removed. Then, new step – in showers are being carefully installed with brand new tiles for a fresh, new look making showering much more convenient and comfortable.

This is a finished vanity floor in one of the rooms and it’s getting ready to welcome the guests, like you.

This is one of the bathrooms that’s almost complete after much renovation.

On the 3rd floor, the majority of renovations and remodeling are being done which will make everything look amazing.

All of these renovations adds to the beauty and historic quality of the Lilac Tree Suites which adds to its tradition on Mackinac Island. It’s lots of hard work for the crews and it will look great when it’s complete! I call it history in the making!

There’s also a lot of work and major renovations going on your favorite place to have a great meal and drinks, at the Pink Pony, that’s down on Main Street at their sister hotel, the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront and everything is coming along great. Pony up!

The great crews are working hard to get everything looking like new for you when you arrive because you are like family. When you stay at the Lilac Tree Suites, it’s your home away from home!

That’s how I feel every season when I return and I know you feel the same! Bart told me that this Spring, Opening Weekend will kick off on Friday, May 3rd. Give them a call at 906-847-6745 to make your reservations at the Lilac Tree Suites. Or if they’re full for the dates you want to come, you can call their sister hotel, the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront at 906- 847-3341. They’ll have a room or suite ready for you with your name on it. Have a great time on Mackinac Island and tell them I said hi!
